we POWER EUROPE’S ENERGY TRANSITION

40 GIGAFACTORIES – 0 LITHIUM

Europe’s decision to open 40 Gigafactories has been celebrated by many as a vital step towards the continent’s electrification process. With the transportation sector being one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, the shift towards electric vehicles is seen as a crucial move in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change.

However, concerns have been raised about Europe’s reliance on importing lithium to sustain these factories. As of now, 97% of Europe’s lithium is imported from China, a country that will also reduce its exports in the future, to fuel its own electrification strategy.

Today, there is no full-scale production of lithium within Europe, which could gradually turn Europe’s €30 Billion revolution into a potential disaster.

LITHIUM HIDDEN IN… POTASH!

Potash mining in Alsace has a long and rich history that spans several centuries. In the late 18th century, potash production shifted to Alsace due to its unique geology, which made potash extraction easier. This led to a boom in the industry, which played a significant role during the industrial revolution in the region, shaping the economy of Alsace, creating jobs, and driving growth.

After the World Wars, techniques of mining evolved, and companies such as MDPA played a critical role in innovating and improving the industry in the area.

While mining in Alsace stopped at the beginning of the 21st century due to various factors, including competition from other regions and declining demand for potash, there are still treasures waiting to be extracted from the region’s mines.

While the industry may no longer be as prominent as it once was, its legacy will live on with the focus on a new resident of Alsace’s mines: Lithium!

Outstanding LITHIUM POTENTIAL

At the heart of Europe, our Lithium assets are close to every possible infrastructure (road, rail, air, boats) and nestled in Europe’s richest aquifer.

With over 400 ppm Lithium content, the deposit is a World-Class resource with a low-level impurity profile.

120 years of mining operations provide unparalleled knowledge of the geological situation and offer bonus infrastructure with functional mining pits and a brine pipeline with discharge permits to bring back exhausted fluids for dilution in the Rhine River.

Through thoroughly exploring the direct lithium extraction state of the art, we’ve picked the best-suited extraction train to produce lithium at one of the lowest costs, worldwide.

Producing at just a dozen kilometers from the Stellantis plant, and 80km from the Bugatti factory, we’re supporting Europe’s efforts to decarbonize transportation.
